I’m currently working on a Flutter application named “Attendeer”, designed to solve a real-world problem within (but not limited to) the Deaf community.
We have several Deaf events, and it is laborious to “check in” each individual, depending on how each Deaf club/organization has their database set up, and sometimes that is just a list of names on paper.
Event staff usually spend quite some time scanning these papers for names or writing down attendees that are guests, so I came up with a neat solution that I knew could scale, and that was my barcode scanning system in conjunction with Google Sheets.
However, I decided to go beyond simply running an open page of Google Sheets on a tablet / laptop while operating a bluetooth scanner to scan the member’s ID cards. I wanted to make this a standalone product that took care of all the ugly spreadsheet functionality away by abstracting everything. This was motivated by the fact that I knew if I was not present for an event, the other Board members would not know where to even begin with this Google spreadsheet in conjunction with a barcode scanner.
